Hullo, lads and ladies! It’s time for a few quick updates and random musings!
Lots of stuff is going on in the Joe-verse and I haven’t been able to keep up with all the writing because I’m too busy adulting at the moment. I’m sure all you busy little bees out there understand but I thought I would elaborate because what the hell else do you do on a blog, yeah?
Anywho, my absence from the interwebs has been primarily due to moving. A combination of using my Herculean strength to move heavy objects, no internet connectivity, and sheer lack of time has prevented me from getting on here and doing the thing where I write the words. I’m using the day job’s internet to put this up, so….shhhhhhhhh.
Lots of crazy stuff is happening in the world, yeah?
King Cheeto (aka the Mango Mussolini) is…how do I put this…a stark raving fucking lunatic. Yup. That’s the right way to put it. This man has barely been in office for a week and he’s taken a huge, steamy dump all over the Constitution. I’m not going to go into it too deeply as I’m sure it’s sucked the life out of you already but I want to go on record and state that Baron VonFuckstick is officially the world’s biggest douche canoe.
I could go on and on about Orange Hitler but I have a feeling there are a lot of other voices out there that are better suited to speak on that. One of those voices belongs not only one of the smartest women I’ve ever met but also a terrific writer. I sincerely hope that I’m promoting her blog in the near future.
What I do want to talk about is the single greatest superhero show on the planet now, The Flash.
In my hiatus from the interwebs, I didn’t have a chance to catch any of the mid-season premieres. So, you know The Flash is the first thing I watched. I have to go on record and say that Grant Gustin is my Barry Allen. Ezra Miller has some big damn shoes to fill.
Wow, wow, wow…Kid Flash is here peeps!
Keiynan Lonsdale is showing up, people. His excitement and exuberance playing the part of Wally West has me sold. I’m going to be honest…I was a bit worried he wouldn’t be able to pull off the personality of Wally but he nailed it. Slow clap for Keiynan, everyone. He’s legit and Wally has made the scene. Long live Kid Flash!
The writers get it. Barry and Iris are the heart of the show.
Barry’s genuine concern for Iris (Candice Patton) tugs on my heart strings. Her bravery in the face of a possibly horrendous future and the way she deals with it is perfect. I was waiting for the moment when they’d truly start revolving around each other and becoming the characters I know and love from the comics and they get it.
For me, the relationship between the two has always reinforced my belief that there is a special someone out there for everybody. They’re both willing to face whatever comes their way as long as they have each other. They’re the unbreakable bond of the team.
Overall I can’t say enough good things about this cast and crew. They are Team Flash and it’s like watching my favorite comic book come to life each week I see them. Also, they’re joined by Supergirl, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and, coming soon, BLACK LIGHTNING!
Tech Bits & Pieces
I’ve seen a lot of bloggers/creative writer types out there looking for the best place to host their blogs and peddle their brand. I’ve been a GoDaddy customer for years now and I know that a lot of people out there feel burned by them in some way. Most of the time you feel that way because you’re ignorant (which means missing the facts, not stupid) about the way hosting companies work. I feel like this is a topic that I will likely expand upon here on the blog in the future because there are many out there that simply don’t know how to use their hosting to maximum benefit, don’t know what the companies can do for you to help you out, have unrealistic expectations on cost, and they are unaware of what services they actually signed up for in the first place.
I’ve been with GoDaddy for a while now and I can say that they have, hands down, the best customer service out there. On top of that, it’s also their 20th birthday this year which means the deals will be coming. The real clincher is that they’re about to drop a very impressive set of tools for purchase to help make your WordPress easier to manage. Check them out at GoDaddy.com.
To expand a bit on my worldbuilding post, check out this link from Tor which talks about five amazing authors and their skills at making fake places seem real.
Is anyone excited about the prospect of seeing Dune come back to the big screen? I know I sure am!
I’m also going to get back on that whole Tuesday Night Fiction thing. Don’t forget to submit your stories between 300-1500 words. Genre doesn’t matter. It only matters if it’s good.
I’ll be back soon peeps. Fly safe. o7
[EDIT: Almost forgot! I updated the site a bit. Let me know what you think.]
